Bill was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in 1954, two years after his parents immigrated from The Netherlands. At the age of five, his family moved to Orillia, and then to Brampton.
In Brampton, while growing up, he attended elementary and high school and played minor sports. Bill's interest in cars flourished while he worked part-time after school and summers at a local Chev-Olds car dealership. In 1975, he joined Howard Vickery, Chartered Accountant in Brampton and enrolled in the Certified General Accountants (CGA) program. He successfully completed the CGA program in 1979, at which time he joined Fred Johnson in Orangeville.
A year later, Bill and his spouse, Jill, moved to Orangeville and bought their first home, where they still live today. Since then, Bill has been involved with various organizations, most notably, Big Brothers of Dufferin & District (1981- 1991), and then the Orangeville Lions Club, of which he is still a member. He has held most offices in both organizations, including that of President.
In October 2006, Bill and a small group of other professionals in the community formed a steering committee that on January 1, 2007, brought into existence the Greater Dufferin Area Estate Planning Council (GDAEPC). As part of the Council's formation, Bill was asked, and assumed, the inaugural office of President.
Bill and Jill enjoy all aspects of community life in Orangeville.
